Hi there guys, next week I'll be getting two gorgeous lacoustic axolotl's and for the past two weeks I've been getting the tank all set-up.

It's not very warm here at the moment, however the tank temperature is hovering between 22 degrees centigrade to 26 degrees centigrade, and i know axo's are comfortable in 15 - 20 degrees centigrade water.

Are they any cheap alternatives to cooling the water? I tried the frozen bottle of water and that didn't really work, does evaporative cooling with reef fans etc. work well?

Any feedback would be nice on how-to keep the water cool in jolly ol' england!

PS: I'm a college student, so I can't really afford a £120 water cooling unit for another month or two.
PSS: I've got my moonlight's set-up on a timing unit yet it doesn't turn the light off at all.

Evaporative cooling with fans will often drop temperatures between 2 and 4 C cooling depending on the humidity in the room, rarely much more.

This may be enough for you: If the water conditions are OK don't panic at up to 24C.

Is there an alternative location for the tank? Is it near to a heat source or is there heating from powerful light control units (moonlights don't sound very hot!).

Try standing a few jars of water in alternative locations and taking their temperatures.
