Last question,

The API 5-in-1 test strips I have don't measure ammonia.
I believe I read that a pH higher than 8 has ammonia in it.

If my pH level stays at 7, is there any possible chance for there to still be ammonia?
Should I buy the API Master Test Kit (drops instead of strips) ty

Ammonia and pH are separate things. You will want to get a separate ammonia kit. The API is quite good.

Test strips are notorious for giving inaccurate results. It would be worth investing in a liquid test kit. The API freshwater master kit includes nitrate, nitrite, ammonia and PH and is a popular one. As mentioned above, PH and ammonia are different.

Thank you both!

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
