I had him in the green tray while I was changing the stones in his tank from small blue gravel to the white pebbles/marbles - although I'm thinking since he's so big (19cms) he could probably swallow a marble as well lol!

It's not an ideal tank, meant to show off fish in the water column rather than give axolotls walking space but it was free. I plan on getting a larger tank so I can get my axie a friend

You know, I keep calling Tezca a 'he' but today I went to check out axolotls at some different pet shops and I've come to the realisation that 'he' may actually be a 'she'!

Compared to the much smaller males at the pet shop with their two 'goolies' between the legs, Tezca has like... none.

And aren't males meant to be slimmer?

Here is a link that shows a male vs a females...uhh stuff. lol. Here it is: http://www.axolotl.org/biology.htm

I can't tell if my axie is a boy or girl. It is still a juvenile and is about 6 inches now. It doesn't have the black toe tips yet so isn't matured but his "package" looks exactly like the females on that site.

I've already looked at that link and I was sure that Tezca was a boy, but now that I compare 'his' 'package' to that of other axolotls in the pet shop, it's becoming obvious that the cloaca is that of a female, and not of a male.

Thinking that Tezcatlipoca is a male I bought a female but looking back, I think this will work better for me anyway. I don't want them to breed any time soon, so there's no chance of that now :D I'll get a nice wildtype or melanoid boy for them when I'm ready to raise baby axies, rather than have them breed and me scrambling to keep up

Halszka, your axie is so beautiful! The light that shines on her makes her look so white and pretty i love it! your pictures came out really well! What sort of camera did you use to take the pictures? I have taken some pictures of my tank and axie with a disposible camera, as I have no other camera and I have decided to get my film made into a cd at a local store here called walmart so I don't have to go and buy a scanner. I am not sure if my pics will come out too well lol i'll have to see when they get developed. great job on the tank! Very lovely!

My photos are taken with a digicam: Canon PowerShot A75 - 3.2 megapixel resolution, although those of Tezca might have been taken with my sister's Kodak (4 megapixels) that has since been dropped and damaged (not by me! lol).

Here's some photos of my new axie: Mokey

And one of Tezca hanging out in the grass :D

The fluffy gills and the big belly is looking pretty familiar

It's such a small world isn't it?

And just a note, in case anyone thinks the water is green, it's actually the wall behind the tank

The two tanks are next to one another, and I swear my two axies can see each other. Tezca keeps trying to swim across to the other tank and is swimming much more than usual lol
