The Caudata Confessions thread

The giant salamander arrived and it is beautiful. I liked it so much I ordered a mate for it. I'm supposed to update some pictures this week end and will take one of it.

but...but...how giant is it? Do you have it in the bathtub?

More importantly, do you have a pan large enough to fry it in? ;)

*Facepalm*

Unnecessary, he was only joking about frying a salamander, everyone knows they are best barbecued.

Cause that's what I have the most of at the moment. If I had it my way, I'd fry up a golden albino.....I really hate that color!

aha! why? Because it's ugly or because your against the "abnormal" colour which only came about through extensiive inbreeding?

Because I find them ugly.

Melanoids all the way!!!!

Currently only missing melanoid albino and copper (That and GFPs that we can't get here..yet...), and personality wise, they're all unique, and judging on colour isn't the best way to figure out which ones you'll love or you'll hate...Originally I wasn't a fan of goldens (Before I actually had axies of my own), but Izzie's got such a personality (And fighting spirit) that I can't help but love him. Here's hoping I actually end up acquiring the other two colours!!

Oh, and another confession- My new tank is too fat to fit on the shelf I want to get....(Anyone know how to cope with a 5cm overhang on a shelf??)

Minnie - a hefty piece of mdf particle board centered over your stand distribute the over hang evenly.... That's what I would do.

Also make sure if your stand/shelf has a weight limit be sure to stay within that. Don't want your stand to buckle!

My confession: I have never once cycled a tank.

And one time, just after receiving a group of Triturus karelinii, I left the lid ajar, and one escaped. I did find it about a week later behind a storage shelf, a little thin but still doing fine!

I would rather eat golden albino axolotls. I figure they already look like cheese. Maybe wrap one up in a tortilla with some salsa.

I'd be worryed about accidently ingesting a granular gland! And frog legs taste horrible by the way, a salamander wouldn't be much better.

As for the confesions. Its not really a caudate but as a little kid I liked to capture ranidae tadpoles and put them in an aquarium at home, about 90% of them didn't make it! ( Mostly because I didn't understand the concept of disolved oxygen )

As far as eating axolotls I'd have to go with wildtype seems more natural. I don't think I could eat anything albino seems kinda weird.

Same here. I've never cycled a tank... for anything! Not for fish, frogs, or newts. Of course, I've lived out in the country for pretty much my whole life, and I've always had well-water, so that helps. None of those nasty chemicals found in city-water for me!

It is beautiful, Michael. I think rather than bbq-ing it, you should probably stew that one; it looks a little tough.

I once cycled a 1-m by 50 cm tank when I was a kid in Germany. Got it cheap at a garage sale and brought it home (somehow) on my bicycle. That's right: I cycled home a 60-ga tank. Those were the days.....
