Greetings everyone!

I am on a quest to find my wee companion, I seek a Chinese Fire Belly Newt. While I could easily find such a newt at my local pet shops, I seek something they never offer. I would like to adopt my wee friend at as young as safely possible, a tiny newtlet! This will offer me much more time with the wee one under the best care possible, and also support captive breeding and my wee newt will be very healthy and happy.

I look foward to posting here to ask questions when needed and share my wee newt with everyone once I adopt him or her. I am very exited, I hope someone here can help me! I currently have no amphibians right now, just 5 beautiful bettas, and crossing my fingers as the weather gets warmer I can find some garden snails (which I also keep as pets). Alas, I wish I could find garden snail eggs to hatch, but no one ever finds them...though surely someday I will meet a gardener who does and might keep me in mind!!!

But let's talk newts, shall we? :p

Oh! I almost forgot. While I display a Scottish flag (my future home!) I am currently located in Missouri.

Welcome, Mystic. When will Scotland become your home? The reason I ask is that it is not possible to take amphibians from the US to there (not without huge expense and paperwork). So maybe now would not be the best time to adopt? Or maybe you are hoping to hook up with a newt breeder in Scotland? Good luck in your quest!

Hello Jennewt,

oh dear...you are right. Long ago when I last looked into it DEFRA said nothing was required for Amphibians. It now states "Any imports from non-EU Member States into the UK must be via a Border Inspection Post (BIP). You must give 24 hours prior notice by a Common Veterinary Entry Document (CVED) which can be obtained from your local Animal Health Divisional Office or BIP. Part 1 must be completed and returned to the BIP of entry into the EU." That doesen't sound too bad...but then again, it never does. They never mention costs...

I guess in this case I would like to meet a Chinese Newt breeder in Scotland, should one exist!

Hey me again! I decided to go ahead and get the wee newtie now. Its going to be a LONG time before i move to Scotland...so im sure I will have plenty of time to enjoy my newt baby. Is there anyone breeding chinese firebellies in Missouri or whom doesent mind shipping me a newtlet?

If you're sticking around state-side for a while, you should state your location in your profile. This helps people more accurately answer questions (by using either US or metric measurements for lengths, temperatures, etc).

I have added Missouri, USA on my profile now. is there an appropriate location I should post at for finding my baby newt?

If you haven't found it yet, there's a "wanted" section on the forum.
