Hello,

I am new here but I joined for this reason. I have two fire-bellied newts whom I have had for 11yrs...never had any issues. The other day my one newt, Nemo, was floating right side up. I noticed Nemo has been like this for a few days. I cleaned there tank today and switched them to a bigger tank (just something I had planned on doing anyway). For now, Nemo seems to be fine...not floating. When I looked up bloat, that looks nothing like it. The roundness is more in the abdomen as if it were egg retention or constipation. If Nemo starts floating again.....what can I do to help???

Thanks,
Laura

This morning Nemo seems to have gotten over the floating thing. Maybe it was an issue with the water? Now that I look at him it seems to me he has always been sort of round. So I'm not sure it is egg retention but what would've caused the floating?

Was it floating freely and upside down? or was it just upside down, perhaps clutching something with its legs?
When females lay eggs they acquire very unusual positions, sometimes hanging upside down near the surface.
A picture would be helpful, both of the animal and the tank.
