Gday crew.
im in need of major assistance from anyone who has good advice. Throttle ma baby is just over 1 years old i have looked after him to the best of my abilities but it seems i and him have come a cropper. He lost his appetitie just over a week ago and hasnt eatin since. I noticed his gills diminishing..then white growth on the tips a day or so later..being neive i thought it was the new growth and decided to leave it and just observe...
i became worried about him..removed him from his main home into another..treating the water etc..etc..exactly a day later huge fungus like growth appeared around his gills..big ewnough to go right back to his front legs..i also bnoticed his tail had whit on the very end..and it was curled unusually...i freaked out..jumped on this website and hooked up the help care..i did the recommended salt baths and fridge work....
i have had him in the fridge for a day and night ..doin the two salt baths per day...he is looking more lifless then ever..the fungus has not spread..but i can see it is no better either..my questions are
1. how long can i keep him goin on the salt baths?
2. how long can he be kept in the fridge?
3. how do i get him back from the cold water of the 5 degree fridge to a normal aqaurium if he pulls through like a soldier.
4. Is there anything else i can..do ..i feel helpless and want him back..
5. And finally when can i feed him..he is thin ..but i do know that his metabolism goes down when in the fridge..so i dont want to poison him..

Thanks for the help guys / girls ..muchly appreciated

1. Continue with the salt baths for as long as they're needed - can take more than a week or two for fungus to improve (we've saltbathed ours daily for over 3/4 weeks).

2. Again this varies, longest ours have been in have been 2.5 weeks but one of the axies owners had her axie in the fridge during most of summer as she couldn't keep tank cool. (As long as your temp isn't lower than 5deg cel - ours varies between 5-6 deg)
3. Once he is better and when returning him to tankwater; take container out of the fridge and put in same room as his tank let his container warm up for a couple of hours then transfer him back to tank

4, Continue as you are daily saltbaths and fridging till you see some improvement. And by the way they do look pretty lifeless (well mine did - my white ones got even whiter looking!)

5. And finally when can i feed him..he is thin ..but i do know that his metabolism goes down when in the fridge..so i dont want to poison him.<!-/quote-!>

You could offer food few days just before you do a waterchange; but don't be surprised if he doesn't take it. At 5-6deg ours didn't take food.

Gday kapo..thankyou so much for the feed back...i have sad news ..this morning on the sixth salt bath i found throttle had passed away during the night..i beleive that inexperience was the main factor when i left it too long before seeking advice to manage his sickness.and feel terrible about that..he was truely the best lil man of the house.. thankyou again

sorry to hear that Caleb.
