Tiger Help Please

I've had my 2 tiger salamanders for about 2.5 years. Everything has gone fine until now. One of them has gotton some fungal disease that makes him look blackish, and he has dark spots on him. I already gave him a salt bath as some of the posts suggested. What should I do now? Also, the salamander is making chirping burping noises, is this normal or a product of the salt bath?

Welcome back, mcj. I would say continue the salt baths, once or twice a day for several days, and see if this helps. If not, you could consider other approaches, such as getting a vet to take a culture. There are some other accounts of salamanders turning black on the illness pages:

More Tiger Help

I posted yesterday about my tiger sal. who has developed dark colored skin, which is probably indicative of a fungal infection. However, I noticed on the tail a patch of virtually untouched, clean skin with vibrant yellow coloration. Could it be that he is shedding, or is it fungal or both?

Any skin problem will often be manifested in some form of abnormal shedding. It's impossible to say if shedding itself is the problem, or a symptom of some other problem.

Betadine! It worked for me! 1 part Betadine, 9 parts water. Cover animal in this solution, I used a Qtip. Leave for 15 min and rince off with water. Mine shed off all that black skin after 2 treatments, 1 treatment a day. So on the third day all the skin was quite easily removed with just a Qtip and some water. I got this medication a vet. Good luck!

Betadine is iodine based isn't it? I have something in the back of my head saying iodine shouldn't be used on salamanders (might of read it some where).
