Today I just got my first tiger salamander. He is still fairly tiny, I'd say about 4 inches long. I put him in his tank and fed him, but he wont go anywhere near the water. He seems to stay near one of the plants in the corner of the tank. I was wondering if this was normal or if hes just adjusting to the new environment?

He needs a place to hide under. Some tree bark or cork. They don't live in water. They breed in it. The water bowl is for mostly raising humidity in the tank and for them to soak in once in a while. Plus the tank is new he needs a few days to settle in. Relax.

Can you post a photo of your enclosure? Does he have anything to burrow in?
