Tiger striped salamanders acting strange

So I put new soil in my tank and I’m thinking this might be the cause of the strange behavior. Today when I woke up the salamander were more active then usual and as I watched them one seemed to be trying to get out of the cage and the other one had climbed on top of wooden hiding spot. Any thoughts I’m going back to the store to get new top soil I read that they don’t like high ph soil and it may irritate there skin please reply or reach out if you have any information thank you
