Hi Folks.
I've just recently purchased two Axolotls - which i am very excited about.

I have a question in regards to water flow...

When i put the filter on, my Axi's gills seem to move a slight more than normal... is this becasue the waterflow is to great ? and if so, how can i solve an issue as such.

Many thanks,
JASON

Hi Jason,

And welcome to the forum!

Water flow of any sort stresses axolotls. You will need to interupt that current. There are several tactics you can use:

If the filter has an adjustable out take nozzle, direct it to the tank wall to divert the current away from the axies.

Put an obstruction such as rocks or plants in front of the out take flow to dissipate the current.

Use of a spray bar http://www.caudata.org/forum/showthread.php?t=52065

How large is your tank?

Has the tank been cycled? This article details the procedure for cycling: http://www.caudata.org/cc/articles/cyclingEDK.shtml

Cheers Jacq.
