Toxic wood?

H

Several years ago I was given some drift wood that was used in a Fire Belly Toad enclosure. The wood had been in with the toads water area for at least 5 years, maybe longer. I got the wood about 4 years ago and have done nothing with it because I am concerned about it containing toxins from the toads that could harm my newts. Is there any danger in this wood, and if so is there any way I can rid it of these harmful residual toxins? Thanks all, Heather

If you are only worried about toxins, it should be enough to soak it for a couple of weeks. If you are worried about germs, then you might want to submerge each end in boiling water for 10 seconds or so.
