I took this photo by torchlight the other night of a pair of great crested newts back in one of my garden ponds. first return was spotted around the 7th of January

wonderful! and yes I do indeed wish we had them here! what other species comes to your garden?
 
As well as the T cristatus I have T vulgaris and T helveticus in my garden ponds.

more pics morg!! please...i love helveticus...i´d love to see how the english variant looks like. And more of those cristatus would aso be amazing.
btw...congrats for having such a cool piece of nature in your own house.
 
Its icy and snowing here at present, but I will try get some pics of newt action in my ponds as soon as the weather improves
 
Just as an update to my original post.
First crested eggs of this year were found in my ponds this morning
