These newts are found almost everywhere in northern latium although they seem to prefer troughs

In these populations there seem to be a high amount of neotenic females as you can see in the picture.
 
Their more natural habitats are often slow runnign small streams in Italy, not? That's where I have seen them a few times.

the only natural habitat where I often see Triturus vulgaris here in Italy are little seasonal/permanent ponds, often between grasslands and woodlands...

Yes Sergè I've also found them in slow running streams but I'd say they prefer still water

I would say that L. vulgaris meridionalis have the ecological paper and preferences of Triturus helveticus sequeirai in some points of Spain. What altitude have those places?
