Today I went out to get some fresh algae and micro-pond life. As I took some algae I discovered this cutie. I accidently caught her, but released her on the spot. Luckily I had my camera with me.

I suspect her to be Triturus vulgaris, but I'm not sure. Anybody got a clue?

Here some pictures of the pool and the surrounding area. You see it's in the middle of the road (in the forest). In the second pool in the background I found lots of tadpoles. (you can also see my girlfriend and our dog

I hope you enjoy this little show, I sure did as I didn't expect to encounter any newts. Didn't see any others btw.
 
What is it's belly like? palmates have a pinkish tinge to, and no spots on, the throat. They are also a bit smaller.

I think it's a female of Triturus helveticus...

It was a yellow belly, in my enthusiasm I forgot to take a picture of it

Yes, that must be a female helveticus. It's common to find this species in little pools or puddles or even prints of cowfeet in the mud. Great find!
