My other question is about my other axie (Poppy) she's not very aktive and she has a floating bum problem that comes and goes. I think it's often but is it that normal or something that should just appeare once in a while?
I have sand in the tank but before i had bare bottom and she had the same problem then. At the store they had sand to no gravel.
It seems to work itself out when she poops, but it comes back in a day or two.
I'm Feeding them earthworms, they get one half of a worm each, everyday. Sometimes every second day cause they look fat.
Could i be overfeeding them?
They're both just a couple of months old, this one slightly bigger so i'm guessing she's a bit older.
This is just a picture of her crawling out of her hiding place where she spend most of her time.

Hi,
Axies gills become more red when they're active because their blood flow is increasing. Some also show red tails and legs too. It's completely normal for them to be pale when they're not active. If mine is still for long periods at a time he will look very pale.
The floating bum is also a normal sign that the axolotl needs to poop. As for feeding, a good indication of a healthy axolotl is that their stomach is around the same width as their head. :happy:

As becks has said, if their tummy is the same width as their head then they are at a good weight, if its thinner youll need to feed a little more, if its bigger, a little less
The floaty bum is just because they need to go to the toilet or they have swallowed a large air bubble and its passing through them hehe, it shouldnt be a problem unless they cant get to the bottom of the tank and are constantly floating.

You have very beautiful axolotls, and I really like the look of your tank! (I don't think you need to worry about those stones being swallowed, after what we said in the other thread; they're huge!)

Thanks guys ! I guess i'm getting worried cause they're changing as they grow. When new things are happening.
As for the floaty one (Poppy) it's just because she's like that almost all the time and it seems to Bother her. Today she was head against bottom and tail towards the surface straight like that, unless she found something to crawl under. She can stay at the bottom but it looks hard struggeling with it all the time.
She pooped a real big load today but still floats.
I' m putting her overnight in a separate tub with lower water level so she can get some rest. See if there's any change tomorrow.
But you just think she's like that? Nothing i'm doing wrong with the feeding?
I've bought some other food for her to see if that makes any difference. But it's larvae and my axies is used to handfeeding and they don't get that the larvae is food cause they are to small to handfeed. So they just leave the larvae. Really hard. Any tips?

As been said before it will generally pass. I think your making the right choices by putting her in a seperate tank. It could chill her out a bit!
As for feeding you seem to be doing perfectly fine with the feeding. Axies will most likely eat anything available. I thought mine didnt like brine shrimp and even though he prefers blood worm it didnt take him too long to eat the brine shrimp. Ofcourse it may seem like they arent eating it if they arent used to it but given time she will be just fine!

How regular is poppy passing her waste/poo... as said before it still could be her having trouble passing her waste. This again should sort itself out. Taking into consideration the way she eats her food. By sucking it up its very common to swallow large air bubbles. Monitor her in the seperate tank again like your doing see how regular she passes waste. You need to rule the symptoms out. If you find her waste is nornal and regualr most likely is her just consuming a large air bubble.

Small axolotls occasionally swallow air and have floating problems , these axolotls are too big for that to be a likely cause.
Where did you read this ?
Dont worry about overfeeding small axolotls , they just grow faster if well fed, just make sure you remove uneaten food so it doesn't foul the water. Some axolotls do seem more prone to floating than others, I have several hundred atm and the same ones seem to suffer from this condition periodically. You haven't mentioned what temp your tank is kept at, warmer water seems to increase floating problems. Fridging the axoltl may help pass what ever is bunging it up.

That temp is not the cause of the floating then. It may be the axy still has some gravel in its gut from the pet shop and fridging may be beneficial. There are other causes to floating which I dont know about, non of my axolotls who occasionally float are exposed to gravel and they just seem to randomly do it or when the temp gets warm. Hopefully somebody else can shed some light on the other causes to floating and possible treatments.
