Hey Everyone,
Does anyone have any experience with Ultra-Violet filtration for axolotls???
Just wondering about the pros + cons of using one of these.
Thanks...:sick::sick::sick:

There was a thread on this just recently but after six different attempts, I still can't find it. Sorry about that.

In any case, the gist was that a UV filter is inappropriate for the relatively small amount of water in an aquarium; it is rather more intended for ponds. There is also the concern that a UV filter will kill all beneficial bacteria, as well.

That's what I remember from reading the thread. Maybye you will have more luck finding it, or someone else will chime in and provide more detailed info.

Only the bacteria who will come in contact with the UV light are goin to be killed. Beneficial bacteria most live in a filter or in the soil, so there's not much to worry about.
UV light works only for floating algae (greenish water) (caused by sunlight mostly), not for algae what is stucked on glass, ornaments etc. (that's why it's intended for ponds: They catch a lot of sunlight)

    with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
