Hey folks.
I posted the other week that I was new to axolotl and had been given a sadly neglected axolotl, which has now been named Pancho. He is cute as a button, following folks around when they get up and pass his tank. He isn't fed on bloodworms now, but earthworms, which is facinating to watch him catch. He is around 6 to 7 inches long, still assuming he is a He, if he isn't, then Pancho is going to be a very embarassing name. We are still slowly fixing up his tank, will be posting pics once we have it all done. I did a water test, and everything came back within normal levels on the test strip, luckily it is one of those tests that has a colour code chart that says if it is in safe parameters or not. He does tend to float alot by the back end, but has a healthy appetite, and doesnt appear to bloated. He has pooped and occaisionally you can see a bubble escape and float to the surface. I think he is settling in, my only concern is his floating bottom, he doesn't float to the top or anything, his front feet remain on the bottom of the tank. He is still getting treatment for fungus on his gills, the one remains swollen and red with practically no feathers on it. I am hoping he will drop it eventually. Still learning as I go with him, but he appears happier and more active now, and is showing his personality playing peek a boo.. ok i know its probably me playing it but its still fun.

Hi Claire.
Thanks for the update. It's great to hear that Pancho is settling in. I hope that his medication works and everything starts to get back to normal.
As for the floating bottom, sometimes that happens when they need to poop. As long as he is eating and pooping then I'd guess it's a "needing to go" thing rather than actual constipation.
Some of the more experienced keepers may be able to give you better advice on that though.
Best of luck with Pancho and keep the updates coming.

He seems happy and lively. Peeping out of the little house. I've noticed he is a sneaky one and likes to play nonchalant with his worms we drop in. Sidles up to them nice and slow... then when they arnt looking..snap.. lol. As you can tell.. totally besotted with him.

That's worm thing is quite funny. I can imagine him waiting, even if he is hungry, until you are not looking at him.
We are all besotted with our adorable bundles of weirdness. They are amazing creatures, with adorable faces, and entertaining antics. What more can you ask for?
