Updated Triturus Baby Pics

That's really incredible. I know you'll spring to the challenge. Reminds me of my torosa.

Do I hear a call for more springtails? My whiteworm/springtail culture has gone rampant.....

Sure Pin Pin. I'm sure the babies will find your springtails and white worms delicious.

Nice photos there Dave. I think that cristatus has something of the dinosaurs about him/her. One thing that puts me off breeding small bodied Triturus like montandoni is that they metamorphose at such an annoyingly (if cute, if you like that sort of thing) size from the feeding point of view. If it metamorphoses at less than 4 cm I don't want to know :p.

Not really babies at 4.5", but since you were showing your monster cristatus (and u theoretically bought these little guys...

And Jen, I finally got a shot of the orangish tail:

The juvenile waltls seem to be particularly orangish in comparison to the photos of adult waltls.

Bethnewt:
I get springtails (and other little crawlies) in my worm-compost box - I THINK especially if it is kept a bit wet.

PS: since the worms breed very fast, I can select worms of any size to feed to my newts... instead of having to cut up big worms, i just feed smaller ones. I'm not sure... but possibly the young worms have not yet developed the "distaste" I hear about in compost worms? They seem to be well recieved

Comparison of dobrogicus alpestris and montandoni morphs (excuse the quality):

Quite the difference Juraj. Does the dobrogicus ever snack on it's tank mates?

More baby pics. It's been a good season.

Hi David
What kind of substrate is that in the last 2 pictures?

Just top soil (black dirt). I keep half the tank very damp and half dry. I was just introducing the marms to a larger tank. After the photo op, they chose the damp side. With the montandoni, it seems like they like both conditions. Tonight I'll add some leaf litter, some moss and some hides.
