My roughly 9yr old axolotl has recently become fatter and fatter over the last three months. I feed him frozen blood worm one square each feed. I used to feed every second day now just twice a week. He doesnt float just cruses the bottom of the tank.
Please help me.

Re: URGENT...My Axalotl keeps getting fatter HELP!!!

I'd say he needs veterinary attention. This is typically a kidney issue so I dont know of any home remedies for that. He's having issues osmoregulating.

I think i may try fridging him. Im from a country town so don't think any of the vets will treat an axalotl unfortunately. Sadly to say i think he may be too far gone.
If anyone else has any ideas or tips please let me know ASAP!

Thanks for your reply.

A salt bath can help pull water from his body but I've only done this with frogs and am not familiar with the concentration you'd need to use. Its just a temporary fix though and will not resolve the problem, just make him more comfortable and buy time. Hopefully theres someone with more info for you. Sorry and good luck.

9 years old is pretty good for a pet axie! I have to agree that it's likely to be kidney or liver issues, possibly due to old age. The only real course of action is a vet, if you can't find one locally maybe a local vet can contact a specialist via email or phone.
