Some of my animals from last year. Morphed during August September 2004.

Very nice, Juraj. I see that you raise them terrestrially. Have you tried to raise the morphs in water? Does the terrestrial setup work better?

Wow! I really like these pictures. They look like they're posing for the Family Album!

I think raising them terrestrially is more natural way. I keep one group of 20 in semi-aquatic setup but the animals don`t seem to be completely aquatic. They spent a lot of time on the land and only a few stay in the water.

I raised my verrucosus juveniles completely in an aquatic setup which was quite "sterile" (5 cm of water and some floating Elodea, weekly water changes). I find this way much easier to feed and control them this way (trout pellets).

Great photos, and lovely newts.

Juraj, do you find that T. verrucosus is mostly aquatic, as often reported, or that it spends a fair amount of time on land? I'm setting up a viv for T. shanjing but availability (or lack of) means I may opt for T. verrucosus instead. I'm curious about whether or not their requirements overlap with regards to terrestrial/aquatic requirements...

Well this is difficult to generalize. It depends from animal to animal and from the origin. I only can say that the animals that I keep /adults,morphs/ like to stay on land a lot of time. Sometimes I see all of them in the water sometimes some of them. It probably would be possible keep them completely aquatic but I think it is better they can choose what they prefer. However aqua-terrarium is nicer for watching
