Water flow

this spring i'm revamping my terrarium to have a pond w/a creek around all sides and an "island" on the middle. the creek would only be for guppies and if my newt transforms, then i'll move him. do i need some sort of filter, and is there some way to get the water to flow w/out some big bulky thing in the "pond"

You should get a filter, a fluval can produce a current if that is what you want.

But can you attach tubing to a Fluval to make a creek or waterfall? I think that's what he's trying to do. I know you can put tubing onto a Duetto DJ-50 submersible, which is a nice small filter.

It depends upon what you want to do. I'd recommend some kind of filtration to help keep the water clear, either that or you will need quite frequent water changes.

If you elevate one half of the tank so that you have a gravity water flow you could use a small pump like this to move water to the top. You could use the same pump to create a current around the ring and even modify it with a sponge to provide a little filtration.

The one I linked to is a low wattage pump and so is the Duetto filter that Jennifer recommended. Whatever flow mechanism or filter you choose, if it is in the tank, make sure you choose one with a low wattage as they will heat the aquarium water, something you definitely want to avoid with newts.
