Weird Behavior, Abnormal gills/skin

Hi there, I don't know if this is of any help, but the warmer water is the lower the oxygen content, Have you tried a simple airline (with diffuser) it may help but not too powerful. as for being near the filter mine sometimes does that I think he likes the flow of water over his gills.

If you use a diffuser or try changing the current try also nearer the surface as that is where your oxygen will come from so diffusing the surface may help it may also help to cool the water temp a little. if your tank is covered is there a way of safely allowing extra ventilation to allow air flow over the surface?

Not quite sure what you mean, but it doesn't have a top and I do have a fan blowing over it. I could move the filter output if that's what you mean?

He's not getting better, it seems. I've done just about everything I can, and the water is almost 65 degrees because I keep ice in a bucket over it it constantly. I think my best option is to put him in a container and do 100% water changes. I don't know what else to do about the irritation.

Hi, I couldn't see your picture sadly but it sounds like something that I've delt with my axolotls. One of my axies developed a skin infection which made her skin look really red and the veins became bright red as well. What worked for me was an antibiotic called "Furan 2" at half-ish strength for 4 days. I could see results after 24 hours and this medicine isn't really that expensive. I hope this is what's going on because it helped mine a lot. If I could see the picture I could tell you for sure, but it sounds like that might be the problem.

That could work! I also went out and bought black english tea for a tea bath but it has caffeine and i'm not sure how that works. Any suggestions on tea baths?

I've read mixed things about caffeine. That it's helpful and that it's toxic--to be avoided. I'd wait before using it to see what others have to say.....

I went ahead and used it in a smaller dose. It is water soluable and I asked around. if anything goes wrong I can do a water change, but it shouldn't.

It didn't seem to work. I found him next to the filter output looking as lifeless and red as ever. I moved him to a tuperware tub and hopefully he'll get better.

there's another picture of what he looks like now, it's a little smaller but he's definitely red.
