I bought a new batch of mealworms today and theres this little 1 centimetre long caterpillar in it. its black and is covered in hairs. what could this possibly be?

I don't know the species but it'll be a kind of beetle larva. I get them all the time in my cricket tubs. My geckos used to eat them but newts/salamanders are not keen on their defensive hairs which are quite formidable.

Keep them to see what they turn into. My bet is a little black beetle.
