We've got a floater!!!

mary - you could always put him in a plastic container with dechlorinated water that covers him but allows his feet to touch the bottom; and just do daily waterchanges (I keep a spare container with dechlorinated water - so that when it is time for a waterchange I just use the net to transfer my axies to the clean container. Then toss the dirty water round my garden and clean the container for next water change) You may find he may poo up some gravel, it will also cause him less stress. Feeding as you normally do. (btw I have had 2 of my leucistic/white "babies" in icecream tubs since early Jan as they had lost all colour in their gills. They are just starting to come right)

Hi Kapo- I am having trouble with the actual moving of him from his little home even though i should try it- won't he get more stressed?
have put repositioned their furniture so he can rest his cute wee feet on something!

Sorry, bit confused. Are you having trouble at the thought of moving him - my husband was like that re our wee ones - or do you not have anything available to put him in, to move him to? It is only a temporary measure. The water being lower allows his feet to touch the bottom and stops him floating; therefore would cause him less stress. And, if you placed his container in the fridge it would slow his metabolism down and may give him a chance to get better (ie: stop floating/poo out possible gravel blockage etc...)

"Ever since i have had him( all of 3 weeks) he has been a floater- i have actually lowered the water and their "furniture" higher so he can rest his wee legs on something. He seems to get full on one side as the day goes on and tips over!"<!-/quote-!>

Don't you think he is stressed continuously floating for 3 weeks; esp if he gets full on one side and tips over later? Is the lumpiness constant? (We are axy sitting at moment, friends on a months "belated honeymoon to Europe -their axies had been on beautifully coloured gravel a few months ago till they changed to sand. But even now every so often you can see odd shaped lumps on their sides which seems to disappear when they poo out the gravel, usually find 2/3 pieces every few days. (these are adults tho and don't float - but just to explain the gravel bit)l Your axie could have swallowed gravel at the petshop prior to you buying him.

Hi there- get this- last nite my "meddling" hubbie put more water in their tank- saying the more water the cooler ( our fridge is too cold) i stressed out and said he needs to have his wee feet touching something etc etc and removed some of it. It was however colder water from our water cooler. Get this.... this morn there's a giant poo( normal constitution), floating boy looks all skinny and his body is under the water- he seems so happy!!! the lump is gone. Do i confess to my husband? must have been the colder water.

glad to hear your axie is making an improvment!!

. what was the temperature of the water before your husband made it cooler?.

I haven't got a thermometer yet so haven't a clue- but its been a warm day again( around 20 degrees outside) and he's up to his usual floating- - i have had a fan by their house today. Surely if it was too hot both of them would be floating. I am sure he is just a special needs axie!( trying to register but keeps going error)

you know that when a axolotl is floating that means he does not have enough oxygen or hi is ill

hiya- yeah i know!! he must be the longest floating surviving axie- poor little guy- he is still ravenous and growing. When his tummy is full his back end is lower in the water. maybe i am not feeding him enuff!!

Floating can mean many things!
Im glad hes making a good recovery - your quite the nurse maryjane
