So I got my blackworms today and the little lotls couldn't be happier! When I dropped a couple in the fish tank, they went apey. But as I was poking around at my tray full o' squirmy wormies, I noticed something that seemed a little strange. It was shorter, wider, and transparent. I grabbed one with my tweezers and it was most certainly alive! Not only alive, but LIVELY! It wriggled and wrapped around the end of the tweezers, stuck itself on to the end of one and began to stretch out and writhe about. What IS this strange little thing? There's several of them mixed in with the bloodworms and a part of me wants to pick them out and find a way to convince them to make lots of baby little squirmy wiggly things.

They're called planaria and it's very common to find them in live blackworms. They are a type of flatworm. They look similar to leeches, but they are not a leech.

Oh, alright. They're still weird, cute little things. Can they be fed to the axolotls?

They're not harmful if they're planaria. Pretty sure axies love them as a little snack (if they're not too blind to find them  )
But I thought planaria was a lot smaller. At least... The ones I got in my tank once.

Doesn´t sound like Planaria behaviour...The pictures are a bit ambiguous but i´d say they don´t look particularly planarian either.
People frequently report the pressence of leeches in their blackworms but i don´t know what the species look like.

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
