Question: What axie colors are rare in your area?

Noone around here even appears to know what axolotls are, when I phoned around the pet shops they just said they didn't stock them but I don't actually think they had a clue what I was on about. The pet shop where I got my geckos from have a pet one and they said they will let me know if they could get one but still not heard anything and that was almost a year ago. When I finally found a shop that sold them I had to travel 45 minutes by car to get them! The only had 2 golden albinos (which I bought) and 2 wild types, I don't know what happened to the wild types and I wish my tank had been big enough for all four!
These are the only colours I have ever seen anywhere near me

I went to a pet shop I absolutely HATE on Tuesday. They don't really take care of their animals, but I needed to find where to buy frozen bloodworms from for when my babies get bigger. They had a tiny little plastic aquarium with 4 juvenile axies in, 3 wildtype and a golden. The water was disgusting and all of them had missing or damaged limbs, PLUS they were very under-weight. When my bf went to rawr at the guy for keeping them like that he said that it was normal and they always lose limbs, that you only needed a tiny tank for them and that they didn't care about water quality... I was AMAZED that people could act like that! Me being a big softy brought one of them, I would have saved them all but I didn't have the cash on me, and I already have 23 larvae that I'm raising.

So I have discovered that you can buy axies in my area.... If you don't mind paying £15 for a 2" half dead little guy

My axie is fine now though, he's eating really well and his little leggies are getting better. We're picking up a 2' tank for him later, atm he's living in a 2' by 1' plastic box, specially adapted for the airstone and filter, but I think he needs to go into a tank with some sand as he finds it very difficult to get around as his feet are quite damaged and he can't get much of a grip on plastic.

I dont know if theyre rare here but i never have seen a melanoid axolotl in the stores that sell them... 1 of the colour types i would love to have with a tigerish wildtype <3

Hmmm 2 weeks later and the only colour I appear to be missing is a melanoid... Really need to stop saving axies.... Maybe if I got rid of my bed and slept on the sofa I'd have enough room for another few tanks.... xD

satyrlike,

until i get my waterproof camera.. no luck on new pics.. my grey axie actually seems to be getting darker as she grows. you can see a tiny pic on my profile but i cant do much better..

also i didn't end up getting a golden, i got a gorgeous leusistic male! soo cute!

interestingly he has a pink tale, but white body.. also very well developed and long back toes.. is that normal?? he's quite long too.

In my area i dont really know if many people have them as pets i speak about them enough and no one has said they own any (although one of my friends next door neighbour's might I saw what looked like a leuth as i was walking past his window), however there are 4 pet shops (that all have gravel as substrate :( ) within 5 miles that all sell axolotls when a breeder lets them have some.

Colours i have seen (most popular first) - Leuth, albino, wild, golden

I have yet to see a melanoid, and i really want one!

None of the petshops can get A.Andersoni though :)

there are 2 fish stores in my area that i know of that sell them....
i have yet to see any melanoid ones though
