I want an axolotl! Ive been doing research and stuff but my parents arent budging, what did you say to yours. Bare in mind that i have some fish tanks too all in my bedroom! ANd would a 18"x10"x10" tank be fine?

If you can, get one while its still a very small larve with no legs and tell them its a fish. Then once it starts developing and they ask what it was they bought for you... just (shrug) and say "i thought it was a baby fish"

a 2ft tank would be better for one axy, and I didnt say anything to my parents as I'm in married and in my 30's!

Yes a 2 ft tank would be better. I'am sorry if this sounds rude I don't mean to be. If your 30 and married why do you have to ask them?

This thread was started by Connor S. , the post that said they didnt have to ask their parents cause they were 30 and married was a different person. If you read it carefuly they were just making an off the cuff remark jokingly

a 2ft tank would be better, but lets be honest, its probably better to get a bigger tank, coz they often get to 12 inches, and besides, if for no other reason, you might get so hooked on them, that you might want more, and a large adult pair in a 2ft??thats a bit of a squeeze

very true Alex! Do you think they might not be budging because you have other tanks? How many fish tanks do you have? Our youngest axies are 18months old and 30-32cm+ in size. I currently have one in a 2ft tank and even then it looks small. Maybe print some stuff off from www.axolotl.org site or ask them to visit the site.

<!-quote-!>Quoting Karrie Clinton on Wednesday 07 March 2007 - 16:51 (#POST123702):

Very funny you two, gave me a bit of a chuckle! Connor, I do know there are a few younger axie owners than the likes of Cloth and I on this forum, one or two who asked something along similar lines.

At the end of the day if your parents won't be budged ask them why you can't have one? Is it cost, time, lack of space in your room? If you can get an answer from them then you may be able to work round convincing them and come to a mutual agreement (you may be able to get them later on rather than now).

YEah,if i leave it for a while (until i get working at the local fish shop where ill be getting money and discount) then theyll more likely let me get it! They hear what i want, and when ive shut up for a month then let me get it!
I think its more the space in my room but ive got enough for an 18"x10"x10" on my windwow sill,so thats really the maximum...

My mom told me that if I got any more animals, she was charging us all rent. So the animals (2 dozen at my house, more at the ex bf's) and I now have a 2bedroom apartment (one for me and one for them).

Too much direct light and your tank may start going green, unless you cover it partially. You may also find, you have a trouble with temperature during the summer, keeping it below 24C. Are you intending getting a large or young axie? A smaller one could stay in that size tank but give it a few months and it will outgrow it and you'd have to upgrade tank size within a year. Got any floorspace for a larger tank? We keep 2 of ours in spare bedroom on floor.

No i dont have really any more space for one any bigger really. It could be a lil wider but not deeper which is the main thing...I plan to have a backing on it to try and stop direct sunlight. Also, someone sadi that they put pieces of polysterene on the back and sides odf the tank in summer to keep it insulated,so id try that.
So really 18" is the absolute maximum really. Id obviously get as smaller one as possible I know people who keep near fully grwon one in 30 litre tanks, which is the same size or even smaller than the one i will get if im aloud

A full grown one could live in that one, even one of mine at a push, but you wouldn't have much room for decos/plants/caves especially if its 10inches wide, if you could get it wider than it would allow more room as axies use more floor space.
