Hello!

I know that there are many Spanish speaking people out there. So here is a question for you:

I have learned that genus Bolitoglossa is "salamandra-lengua hongueada" in Spanish. My dictionary tells me that "lengua" means "language". Is that correct?

But what does "hongueada" mean? My dictionary doesn't recognize it at all

On other words, what does the name of this genus mean if translated literally?

well the literal translation of Bolitoglossa is Mushroon-tounge if that's any help

Do you mean that latin/creek word
"bolitoglossa" means "mushroom tongued"? Or that Mushroom Tongue Salamanders is an English language name for these animals? Or both

I wonder if "hongueada" then means "a mushroom"?

Hi,

as far as I have found out means Bolioglossa the same as lengua hongueda : "mushroomed tongue" the one is greek (bolitoglossa) the other is "latin".

Best Greetings,

Kamil

lengua comes from lingua (lat.) = tongue
hongueda seems similar to fungus... and indeed google told me that hongos are maushrooms.

Many thanks for your answers!

If we do continue with same theme, could someone please explain etymology / meaning of name Bradytriton. What does this brady mean, or where does it come from?

I've been trying to work this one out too, can anyone come up with any answers?

Hi, I know Im late but Hongueda does mean Mushroomed, so Kamil is right on with the translation. And in this case, lengua means tongue. Lengua can be used to mean language just like sometimes in english people talk about languages by saying tongues. "He speaks in many tongues".......

I had no idea Bolitoglossa meant this. Cool question!!

lengua=tongue
hongueada= mushroom shape (never heard hongueada before though....not a spanish word xD but that should be the meaning)
