hello everyone, my brother left the lid of the aquarium open and left the house and when I came home, I found my salamander dry outside the aquarium, its gills were almost purple, I immediately took it and put it back in the aquarium, now it's a bit stressful, but it seems like there's no problem. It has known my salamander ever since and has never tried to attack it. When I looked at the security camera at home, I couldn't see an attack coming from the cat, but I can't see it jumping on its own, it has never tried to get out of the water before, my first question is why it may have jumped out of the aquarium my second question is what could be the reason for these wounds on its tail. Many thanks to those who answered

sometimes axolotls just jump out. it's not uncommon, which is why i've always had a lid. the purplish color of the gills looks to just be from it being a bluegill leucistic. the ripping does look like it came from something sharp rather than just a fall, and i strongly advise tubing and starting tea baths.

It doesn't actually look like it's been out that long either. Some of them are in far worse shape. I don't know what the "it" is you refer to in the one sentence where you say "it has known my salamander...".

Anyway, I always recommend methylene blue baths to prevent infections but daily tea baths (organic black tea only for 10-15 minutes/day) are also good at treating infections like axolotl nerd said. Methylene blue seems safer in general as it can just be added to the tub at minimum dosage.

I reckon what happened is when it jumped out, it got its tail caught on something or scraped on something, maybe the edge of the aquarium. Water testing is a good idea as it may be your parameters were off and it jumped in search of better water.
