What is the best Chiller?

I'm currently looking for a chiller for my tank.

It needs to be 240v b/c I live in Australia - whatever that means!

I don't want to spend over $600 AU and I'm looking on Ebay at the moment to try to find one, but I have no idea what to look for in a chiller.

If anyone could give me some ideas it would be much appreciated - even if it is only to tell me which chiller you have and how well it works?

I don't have a chiller, but this one is not that expensive and i don't know i guess it is probably good. There are others on that site but they are more expensive. This one only costs 399.99 US. I don't know how much that is AU. Good luck with your search. oops sorry, thats only 115 volts

Thanks, Jordan!

I've actually looked at that site.

I was just hoping to get information from other forum users/axolotl owners who have chillers and can give me some advice.

Nonetheless, thanks for your effort in looking up a site for me! I do appreciate it!

im sorry, i should have known that you wanted people that actually have chillers...sorry

HI Casey.

I too needed a chiller badly (I live in Far North QLD and my babies were literally cooking as the temp in an airconditioned home was around 27C, now they are around 17C)

I ended up making my own chiller (there are pictures and descriptions on this forum somewhere) but this companys link below I found to have a reasonable priced chiller - Im sure you could also talk the price down

Let me know how you go.....

but i know bugger all about em
Japanese electronics usually good, dont know about refrigeration ?

Yeh I've been looking too, pretty stinking hot here right now.
Cheapest I saw on Ebay lately is $545.00...
I think I'll have to stick with ice packs for the moment and our good old friend the fridge.

As far as I understand they work on a similar thing to a filter they suck in water and spit out cold water...I read something along these lines when i was looking for info on filters...

Not much help with the "best" type though.

if u have a cannister pump u can run it in line with that, if not u have to buy a pump also...
for now i got a 12cm comp fan blowing over the top of the water "makes a fair bit of difference"
but my comp has been on non stop since i got my axies about a week and a half ago lol
current temp is 20.1c but it's not very warm, in fact we have floods at the moment hehe...

yes we have had some thing like the whole average rainfall for two mths in 1 day, some roads are blocked and about 60 homes flood damaged
"poor buggers" i'm not affected at all "yet"
hopefully it will block the road to my work j/k
gotta feel for those it has effected though

Hey Rob,

Wanna send some of it our way...We've virtually had nothing and as you probably know we need it!
Mind you, I don't think we need the actually flood...Just some of the rainfall lol.

(quote)where are you in location to this flood?(quote)

i'm more central so not really a problem for me

i would send u some if i could Suzanne, cause i'm really sick of the rain ! "bring on summer"
i'm more used to Darwin weather so all this cold etc.. brings me down
sad.gif

now the farmers will be in trouble cause of too much rain ! washing all the top soil away etc..
"they just cant win" poor buggers
it's started to clear today

haha that is funny, but actually terrible. That looks pretty bad. How deep is it?

yes i recon the moby dick is funny lol, like after all them yrs he's finnaly made the big escape
"go willy go !" lol
in that particular spot it would be about 20-30 foot i "guess" but it is actually a small run off that is usually about 3-5 foot i recon
"right next to a brewery"

I just bought my chiller! cost me $620 through Aquariums R Us which is online.

It's a Resun filter for 300L max.

If there is one thing I have learned from keeping axies - it's that they're not cheap!

At least, now I can go away on my holiday not having to worry that they might not be alive when I get back.

thats the one iv'e been looking @
what size tank are u using it in ?

yep agree axies arn't cheap, luckily i just sold a computer i built which will cover the cost of the cooler i want

let us know how it goes ?
