Hello to all of you. This is my first post with a "simple" question. I live in Puerto Rico. My fish room temperatures average 79-82°F. I love aquatic newts and used to collect them in NY State when I lived there many years ago. But will any newts do well at my temperatures here in the tropics?

spanish ribbed newts should do fine. Salamanders that would do well would be Amphiuma and Sirens. If you purchase from any place other than Puerto Rico you will need a dept. of ag permit. If from a country other than U.S. you will need to import.

Thanks for the information! I will check on the Spanish ribbed newts. But the Dept. of Ag. permit may be a problem. I will check if I get that far.

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
