What sex is my firebelly ??????????

Can anyone tell what sex firebelly newt I have? I know these are not the best pictures, but I was worried about hurting it.

It looks like a boy. Is the tail broaden? Female tends to be bigger and longer than male, but this also depends on the maturity of the newt. However, the cloaca area seem swelling, that hinted it to be a male.

It appears to be a male but, perhaps one that has more experience with breeding/raising firebellies can give you better advice.

In it´s state is very hard to ascertain the sex. Judging by the pictures i´d say female, but when it fully recovers, it´s possible that the secondary sexual characteristics will develop again revealing it´s a male.

I'd have said male...They have different tail shapes too. Although I have one newt that looks like yours with a different tail and I'm not sure what it is. The other one I have has the same shaped tail as yours and a swelling and it is definately a boy. Wait until breeding season to get better pictures.

it looks very much to be a female, as the males clocoa would probably be much larger compared to this ones, almost swollen unless I got my information from an invalid source (http://www.caudata.org/cc/articles/sexing.shtml) im almost positive its a female, also its toes are relatively small, good luck

I would say female, too. Male's cloaca would be more swollen, tail tip more rounded and tail shorter.
