What size glass cut?

Hi, I'm in the process of setting up a 10 gallon tank that I want to have a land area in. I want to use a piece of glass as a shelf of sorts to hold the land/soil area. I'm totally new to tank modification and could really use some help. Does anyone know offhand what size cut of glass that would be to go from one side to the other? Also, what is the product called that I use to stick it in place? Also, will it need any kind of support underneath in the middle area or anywhere else, or will the adhesive be enough? I know I will have to get a second piece of glass cut to make an inch or so lip to hold the soil back and all of equal length to the other cut. For all needed materials, what is the estimated cost? Am I forgetting anything? Again, any help would be appreciated.

It's very important that you measure the actual tank you plan to use. The exact measurements of a "10-gallon" tank can vary slightly from one manufacturer to the next. Tell me both the OUTSIDE measurement (which includes the thickness of the glass) and the INSIDE measurement. Both of these measurements can be take from the outside of the tank, just put a ruler up to the side of the tank.

You need "aquarium silicone sealant", which is sold in tubes at pet shops. Some home improvement stores sell it too. To be safe, it has to be labeled as "aquarium silicone", or you take the risk that it will contain chemicals harmful to critters.

You need some kind of support to hold the glass to the tank. There are various options for this. For a tank as small as a 10-gallon, you would not need a "support under the middle area", if you mean what I think you do (?).

The cost depends a lot on the glass shop. They vary widely in price. It's worth calling several different places until you find the best deal on small pieces. The whole project should be under US$20, if you can get a good price on the glass.

You've probably already seen this page, but here is the link anyway:

If you can show a drawing of what you plan to do, I might have some other troubleshooting ideas.
