Hey everyone!

So the new axie I got seemed to be doing fine until today.

He hasn't eaten and he is hiding in his hide, but the odd thing is he's flipping his gills back and forth a LOT.

Is he stressing because of the different water and new environment?

Should I be worried? Well, I am worried, but should I be?:(

I am having a cloudy water issue. It's not horrible, but I did leave the room dark today in an effort to slow/ kill the algae in the water and will be doing so again tomorrow.

Any help would be great!

Have you tested the water lately? I'm beginning to think it's really just a matter of course on this forum to provide your ammonia/nitrite/nitrates, pH, and temperature if you have a poorly-looking 'Lotl!

Yeah, test the water as said above.
Mine flicks his gills when he's asleep.

Water stats are great, so that's not the problem. Wondering if it's just the change in environment and water. AND possibly this slight cloudy algae water that's going on.

He's out today, but still flipping his gills. I added an airstone last night, on low, to see if that would help.

Just doesn't look like a happy 'Lotl, even though Audrey, who's in the same tank, is right as rain.

Axolotls flip there gills to disperse carbon dioxide and allow for fresh oxygenated water to surround them! No worries they all do it!!:)

So what are your great water stats, and what test kit did you use?

Its always best to list ammonia/ammonium, nitrite, nitrate, pH and temperature, just in case you have missed something. 199 heads are better than 1 :p

Of course, he might just need to adjust his gills to your waters oxygen levels if he's new in the tank.

Is your set up fairly new? A cloudy tank is always a concern.

Came home after my 12 hour shift to find Seymour out and about, meandering about and acting normal! YEAH! :D

So it must have been just getting used to the new water and tank. :p

Thanks for all the help, advice, and support!

Have a great weekend!
