Hi,
I've got a four foot rank ready pretty much, need to get a rock, and some hides...
But apart from that filter is ready, so is temp. etc... so I think i'm ready :D
My question is, what is the best age to buy an axie?
I don't really want eggs, so Im guessing a few months old - wouldn't want an adult really but although I wouldn't know where to source a young one, so what is the best age to buy do you think?

Thanks,
Joe

Young juveniles. You get to watch them grow into adults, and watch as their personality develop.

COuld I only get one then? Because I've heard ( other rather read :p ) that you can't keep multiple juvies together because of agression? Thanks for responding

You can keep multiple juveniles together if the tank is large enough with plenty of hides and visual barriers.

Ours were both juvies when we got them, and they both have their own special hidey spaces for when they want space. Apart from the occasional warning nip when Roscoe sits on top of Chester (which he sometimes asks for, to be fair!) they get on very well, and watching the interaction between them is fantastic.

Thanks for th replies Juvies it is! :D

If you can, without startling them, be sure to take photos as they grow! I have pictures of Arbie from the first day I got her up until now and I can't explain how lovely it is to see her as a young lotl to being all grown up! =]

By the time they are a good size to ship, they have gotten past the cannibalistic stage. With axolotls of ANY age, there is always a small risk they will bite each other.

Agreed! Juvies are great, all three of mine are juvies, and I love watching them grow and explore their environment. :) I think that within the two weeks I've had them, I have about 100+ pics, :D
