I want to get a pair of either of these species and I have no idea where to get them. They obviously are not common in stores and so I figured I would ask here. If anyone has any for sale (i will even buy eggs) or knows an online/retail source I can get them from for a reasonable price please inform me!

Thanks in advance,
Justin "serox"

they are not good beginner species -and most adults off the pet trade are in a bad state, vet treatment is a standard precaution when getting some. its hit or miss on availability of shanjing and verrocosus are not easy to get in the US, there is starting to be cb of both avail now days, so healthy cb will be an option soon. here is a link to what i went through last year when i got minehttp://www.caudata.org/forum/messages/985/17162.html?1090440638

what does "cb" mean? Also, where did you order yours from?

I don't expect to see any more wild caught offered for sale. I would expect to see Captive Bred available in the fall. My T. verrocusus have been chasing each other around quite a bit lately and nudging at each others claocas. I would expect to see c.b. T. verrocusus, T. shanjing, T. kweichowensis, and T, taliangensis pop up now and then for sale in the U.S.

What are some good sites to buy newts/salamanders from?

Any wholesalers or anything? It doesnt seem like many people here have any "for sale"

Hi Justin,
You'll have to just keep your eyes open. Their were some c.b. shanjing around last fall. I would expect to see them and other species offered for sale and trade this fall. Usually you can't decide you want to purchase a "rare" salamander in the U.S. and find one right away. Just keep watching and eventually they might show up.
Start wearing a mohawk and kiss up to Paris looks like your best bet right now.

you're evil mike!

One of the US wholesalers had WC shanjing in just 2 weeks ago and are still offering WC kweichowensis so you may still find some lurking in petshops but as said above you are much better waiting until some CB come up for offer later in the year.

The guy with the Tylototriton for sale a couple weeks ago was offerring animals that had been in the country for some time. I don't believe he was a wholesaler. He just changed his mind on a breeding project.
I don't think their is a waiting list anywhere for T. kweichowensis. Their are lots of them in hobbyist hands in the U.S. and they should be in breeding condition. My crystal ball says we will see T. shanjing first, T. verrocusus second, and T. kweichowensis next. The T. kweichowensis are the nicest in my opinion.

I was joking about the waiting list. I do agree though, kweichowensis are the nicest, though I'll always have a soft spot for shanjing.

It was / is a wholesaler, I recieve livestock lists from them every week.

I stand corrected.

Im still in the market, they are so hard to find. I had a T.shanjing when i was 10. I found it at a pet store for 10$, at that point i didn't realize the value of what i possessed.
