Illness/Sickness: White eye, fungus?

My little albino Cap'n got what LOOKED like a fungus in his eye. There was some white fluffy stuff coming off it so I took him out and started the salt bath treatments. Two days later his eye isn't fluffy anymore but it is still kind of milky white instead of red. Is it still fungus-ey? did he go blind in that eye? is it something else? i just want to know if hes ok to go back in his tank.

Looks almost like a cataract. Do axolotls get cataracts?

The best way to teast his sight is to dangle a worm on that side and see if he notices it. They can live without sight in one eye in a tank (maybe not in the wild) but if the fungus is gone and he seems healthy the try putting him back in the tank.

Thanks, I hadn't thought to test if he could see. There seems to be no fluff and he's eating fine. He's in a cool space rather than the fridge (fridge is always way too cold) but it really does look mostly like discolouration at the moment.

I'll test and let you guys know what happens

He was like that when we got him a few weeks ago (thus his name). I'm guessing it was bitten off and regrew wrong but he's cute and I love him although it does seem to cause him to slip more on a bare-bottomed tank. Just switched it over to slate and sand though so it should be good when he goes back.

His current tank mate is a wildtype from a different store who also came with a bitten leg (his is growing back normally though) and so far there's been no issues. I feed them both heaps (still a little skinny but they are getting there slowly!) so fingers crossed there's never any problems!

Confirmed. He can see out of his eye.
