Hello, We’re new to the axolotl family and wondered if maybe anyone could offer some advice? Our Axolotl -Dobby, has developed some what appear to be white gills although on the left side they seem to be more clumped together 🤔
He seems happy enough, is eating, crawling and pooping. I’ve tried to research fungus conditions but need to confirm if it’s likely to be that? He has really beautiful feathery gills! I’ve attached a couple of pics in the hope someone may be able to advise us if we should be concerned. Water is all good but I’m going to do a 25% change tomorrow. Thanks for reading 🙂

he definitely has fungus. do you know how to treat that?

Ohh man!! Thank you for the quick response, salt baths incoming!

If he is in a tub, yes, do 100% water changes every 24 hours. If he remains in the tank, I would suggest 40-50% water changes every 12 hours.

I’ll keep him in a tub and do the 100% changes every 24hours. Whilst doing that though should I still do a 50% on the tank?

It would help to clean up the water (which would treat the likely source of the problem), so yes. Just so you know though, once you take your axolotl out, you are removing the aquarium's source of ammonia, and (depending on how long you tub your axolotl) there's a chance you might crash your cycle.

Hello, my axie has been having salt baths since Friday now. I’m adding a couple more pics as I’m confused, there doesn’t appear to be anything that I would consider ‘loose’ on his gills but the tip of the stalk is still white! Is that still fungus? He’s really well otherwise except he keeps going really pale which is making it difficult to analyse the fungus issue 🤦🏼‍♀️
