It comes and goes every now and then, and it doesn't appear to affect them, but it does look like its eating the gills away. Were does it come from, and is it a major concearn? Thanks!
 
sounds fungal to me, too. It can be a major concern, especially if the Axo is already stressed. The solution is to keep the water clean, the temperature low, and to give the critter a nice cool salt soak when it occurs.

or you could try tetracycline, i used it for my mud puppy when i got it in the mail and she had a major fungal infection on her gills.
