White spot on gill

my golden axie about 7 inch has a white spot on tip of 1 gill. any ideas
 
try to post a picture it might be fungus, or just pigmentation
 
i agree. if its fluffy it would most likely be fungus, if not its probably just natural pigementation, do a search for goldens are the picture part and youll see some there.
 
fluffyness is fungus, salt baths are needed for that twice a day should be sufficient with a ratio of 2-3tsp of non iodised salt per litre. remove some tank water into a bowl, add the salt and let it dissolve then net your axie and put him in the bath for no longer than 15 mins, moniter the whole time and if he gets really freaked out remove him back to the tank (dont put the salty water back in there). its normal for them to do a little swim/splash in the bowl when they first go in but if he looks like hes trying to get out remove him. HTH
 
non iodised salt is that aquarium salt or will salt you use at home work
 
I found that instead of doing a salt bath, put them under running tap water for a while, this must sound bad but I´m doing this for a while and my axies gills are not as bad as with the salt baths.
I also always add some salt to my tanks not too much just a spoon.
 
Most tap water in the US is chlorinated, and if you put your axolotl under running water, you are exposing them to chlorine, which can be just as bad as fungus. Not to mention, axolotls are exceedingly stressed by strong currents, and running tap water is definately a strong current. This stress can lead to more fungus.

Aquarium salts are what you want to use, Norman.
 
yea kinda figured that. and running tap water over him sounded not too bright

If you read on axolotl.org about health-fungus, it does actually say that putting your axie to tapwater for 10 mins or so, without adding dechlorinator should have a similar effect as salt baths??I haven't dared to try this myself yet.
 
Oh, and in salt baths, use either aquarium salt or sea salt without any added preservatives, anti-caking agents etc. Just 100% salt
