I just found something white in my tank, about 1/2" to 3/4" long. I'm pretty sure it came out of my paddletail newt's back end. What is this? I don't think it's poo, because it's white. Is he sick?!

Please, I'm serious! Could it be waste even though it's white?

Your description is pretty vague. A picture would help.

I would, but I can't because it's already disintegrated in the water. It was about as long as my thumb is wide, slightly bumpy, white, and it came out of my newt.

did it defently come out the newty??

Yes, it definately came out of Chucky. He pooed once after he ate the cheese, so it probably wouldn't be that again. All he's eaten since then is pillbugs and frozen bloodworms.

If he ate cheese, then this is the cause. It may take several poops until it clears out of his system. Do you need advice on what to feed the newt? Cheese is totally inappropriate.

No, thanks. I know what to feed him; actually it was someone else that fed him cheese and I had no control over it. Since then he's only eaten nutritious thing: pillbugs and bloodworms.

newt continues to poo white stuff?!

Today my newt pooed more white stuff. It was a bit smaller this time, about one centimeter, and a little bit bumpy. I'm really worried about him; what could be wrong?

I'm no expert on caudate metabolism, but as Jennewt replied to a previous post:

Whoa, I don't think I've ever heard of a newt eating cheese.
What species is it? What type of cheese?
That is the cause of the white chunks just like Jen said.

He's a paddletail newt, and it was a tiny piece of Kraft singles American cheese. Someone else fed it to him, and I didn't have control over it. I won't let him have any more, though!
