So my two year old male axtlotl has a white thing on his gills and it isnt fungus from what I can tell because it has shrunk since Sunday after I did a water change ,it only appeared on Saturday, and also it isnt fuzzy or effected his appetite, caused constipation, or changed his behavior in any way. From what I can tell it looks almost like a shed build up or some kind or mucus caught in his gills. Any help is appreciated and the sooner the better.

PS: He is also alone in a ten gallon ,soon to be twenty gallon long, with no ammonia, nitrates, or nitrites

Unless its some sort of parasite, it most likely is fungus. Sometimes fungus can have a slightly varied consistency depending on how much there is. Also fungus can easily reduce from one day to the next.

It may be that your tanks water is not in good condition:

Can you test your water for ammonia, nitrite, nitrAte, and PH? Post the results.
What is your waters temperature?

Take some pictures of your Axolotl and upload them to this thread asap!

The thing fell off and there are no remeneants from what I can tell so i dont think it was a fungus.
