Who has made their own ceramic/pottery hides?

I am about to start working at a local ceramics workshop, with the goal of making hides and decor for my Axolotl tank and my newt tank. The person who runs the shop assures me that they only use Food-safe ceramic and glazes.

Who here has made this kind of ceramic, and what wisdom can everyone share on what is actually tank-safe?

Hello! It may be a little late for you but i made my own pottery for my tank. I actually have made multiple hides this way. I made a large bowl on a pottery wheel, let it dry out for about a day, when it was dry enough I used an xacto knife to cut open a little "door way". Hope this helps
