Why did you give your axie that name?

I'm so bad at naming animals!
Of my original 3 axies (who are now adults), I have Canaq, which is a blend of the words Canis (dog) + Aqua (water), since they are Mexican Water Dogs. She is a female wild-type.
Today, I have called another Deltaqua (or Delta for short) - A blend of Delta (the Greek letter D - for dog again) and Aqua. She's a female golden.
The male golden is still un-named as yet.

I've also recently got 2 leucistic juveniles, which aren't named yet.

I have 6 corn snakes, of which only my 1st is named - Amya (regional dialect from his birthplace).
I have an un-named white GAL snail.
My dog is called Caraid, which is Gaelic for "Friend" or "Kinsman", since he is Scottish.
My daughter called her albino Syrian hamster Simba, after the character in The Lion King (which I have recently found out actually means "Lion" in 1 of the African languages, although I have since forgotten which language!)

I have been caring for my friend's 3 adult axies too - 1 of which I called Oz when she 1st got them, as it went through a phase of being upside down (+ in the UK we call Aus "Down Under"). The other 2 I have named today, as Alpha + Beta.

Since writing that, I've changed my mind about the Deltaqua - doesn't exactly roll off the tongue + besides, our family dog when I was a kid was called Delta (because of the D for Dog) + it's just too close.

I have however, named my golden boy - after a family holiday in Wales this year, he is now Ddraig, which is the Welsh for Dragon ;)

My smallest axie I named Tripod, because when I got him in the mail he only had three limbs. Not much thought into that one I know lol. The rest I haven't named yet...

I have two kinds of Latin textbook. I'm worried what that might say about me. The stupid series I've been using at university has nothing on CLC.

I Have named mine all japanese names :)

Daiki - big tree ( wild type )
Midori - green ( wild type )
Jin - gold ( golden albino )
Roka - white crest of the wave ( leucistic )

In Linda Adkins Axolotl book, she refers to 'wild type' colouring as green. Just in case this helps!

:D I called my little lady Inca because she is gold and I didn't want to call her Aztec, but I liked the concept of ancient civilisations as a name... Also - she's the colour of old gold... so it suits

I suppose this is an old thread, but it's a good one! So many awesome names and I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that enjoys themed names XD

I actually love to read so often my names are from books but I also have this list of names that I come up with randomly. I used to acquire animals and then all the cool names I had come up with would just slip my mind.

I named my first albino lotl Noel because it sounded beautiful and it was like my second best "christmas" ever (even though it was spring!). My first best "christmas" was actually my 16th birthday when I was given my beautiful albino kitten, Mystique.

I also theme name all my apple snails after fruits (Mango, pineapple, kiwi..) I have (and have had) a lot of animals so I won't bother with all the names lol.

I plan to have two families of lotls eventually. One will be Cogs, Digi and Gizmo (I have a thing for steampunk so it fit) and the other group is to be Pugsley, Thing, Wednesday (if there's a female) or Gomez. There's enough names I can use but I like those best! ;)

I have Atticus & Boo - I love " to kill a mockingbird"[

My leucistic is called Ajax - after the white cleaning product ?!?

I love reading all the names people have come up with - very creative :p

my big tiger sally which i think is neotonic is named "muddbutt"

my 3 little leucistics are named "sugarbutt" "peppermint" & "marshmallow"

I named my axolotl Rosie after Rosalind Franklin. I'm kind of a bio nerd XD. If it had be a male or if I wasn't sure of the sex, the name would have been Frankie :D

As a Jhonen Vasquez loving family with one grey (GFP wild-type) and one pink (GFP leucistic), we had little choice but to name them Gir and Piggy. :)

A quick word of advice do NOT let youre teenage sons name your axolotls, i made that mistake once!

I have two male Leucistics. I named them Albi and Aristotle. I wanted to be clever and just choose 'A' lettered names. That way it rolls off the tongue: Albi and Aristotle the Axolotl! Say that 3 times fast lol.

My black GFP Melanoid is named Toothless thanks to his uncanny resemblance to Toothless from How to Train Your Dragon, and the leucisitic got the name falcor, again for obvious reasons (unless youve never seen the never ending story)!!

Mine are both Leucistics, the one with six toes is named Ziggy and the other is named Stardust. Yes, like the David Bowie song. Don't know their genders yet, since they're still juveniles, but I figure both names are pretty gender neutral.

Haha, that's how my parents ended up with a cairn terrier named "Stinky". I'm almost 30 years old at the moment, but I still enjoy giving my animals silly names.

Our leucistic is called "Moby" though. (Moby Dick/ Herman Melville)

Dianna named our little gfp leucistic "Star" because she glows.
I named the little melanoid "Tuco" after the Mexican gangster on Breaking Bad.

We have Rodger (golden albino), Neville (wild type), Alfred (white albino), Bernard (wild type) & little Wilba (black)......Just liked old boys names....not sure how they work now that we think Rodger and Alfred are girls.............!

I named my (supposedly female) axolotl Aarna because its Sanskrit for both wave/ocean as well as being a name of the Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth (and lots of other cool stuff). My axolotl is a Golden Albino, so her tail looks like it has good flakes, so i felt the riches reference was pretty sweet in addition to the water reference :)

Our axolotl is named Darwin. I guess we are not the only ones that thought Axolotls are a fairly good example of evolution.
