My first two axies (16 years ago..oh my half my lifetime ago!) were named for ancient mexican gods.
Quetzalcoatl (The Plumed Serpent) Patron of wisdom, patron of the priesthood. He was a lovely Dark Melanoid - I called him Coatl for short - Loved to smash Elodea to ribbons! (plants recommended for Axies mind you!)
Xochiquetzal (Flower Feather) Goddess of love, beauty, and flowers. She was a gorgeous leucistic - I called her Xochi for short - she loved to dance on bubbles.
My present axies are Vader (loves to swim, swim, swim), Leia (loves to play, play, play) and Eowyn (loves to EAT, EAT, EAT - she's just big boned that's all!).
I've had a look on the internet and I found reference to another Mexican god of note:
"Xolotl (Monster): the phantom. Sorceror, dog-face god"
