Wild azzolla

Ihad a heavy rain the other day, and a ton of wild azolla (kinda like duckweed) washed into the creek behind my house, would this be safe to use with caudates? or wildcaught caudates from the same state (different area [im in nc piedmont, caudates would be from mountains) Thanks.

I would say yes and no..

yes, I doubt the plant azolla (I know it as small floating fern) could hurt the newts.

no, there is always the risk of bringing harmful spores, bacteria, critters (leeches?) into your setup when using outdoor plants.

However, I use outdoor plants myself too for my setups. There are risks, but you know best what the area you live in is like. I would rinse the azolla carefully and visually inspect it before putting it in with newts. Perhaps leave it in a bucket with water for a night as well to see what critters come out of it.

Well I ordered some newts from the mountains (wld caught, but i am starting to try and breed.) and thats maybe 4 hours at most away, so i dont think it would hurt...

and yes, it is that small floating fern. I found the mother load of it.

Hi, I want to thank all of you for the info
