Will a rimmed lid be enough to keep terrestrial newts in?

Building a viv for T. marmoratus. Was wondering if they would be able to climb out of a rimmed lid similar to the one pictured

From what I can tell, the "lid" appears to be only a rim. That seems like it would be very escapable. Amphibians are capable of climbing all sorts of things and stick to surfaces very easily.

Yea it’s just a rim which this site says is escape proof but I wanted to double check. Thanks for input

Hi,
Such a rim seems Ok for most caudates. I would provide a rim of at least 2 inches wide.
For Plethodon, it would not be secure as they are fantastic escape champions.
Last word : the lid is also expected to retain the live food you give to your caudate.

Thanks for your reply, it’s a 20L so a 2 inch rim won’t be a problem. And it’s for T. marmoratus, do you think they’ll be safe with it?

This should be Ok.
Live food for T. marmoratus is usually worms, woodlice, crickets...
(If you feed them cockroaches, choose species which cannot climb on glass or you'll meet some escape problems...)
