On Thursday I'm expecting a young Axolotl in the mail, about 2-3 inches in length. Is there anything special I should feed it, or is just a smaller version of what the adults eat suitable?

Thanks,
Chrisy

No one seems to like to answer this question... I've posted it in two places now, with no response... =-/ Someone please answer, if it's even just a guess.

Hi Chrisy,
smaller amounts of the adults food should be ok,earthworms are your best bet.Are you going to keep it serperately,as the bigger ones may harm it.

I don't have larger ones... I was just using it as a general term, or whatever :p

When we got our axolotls, both were 2-3 inches long. I have fed them pellets from IU the whole time. They are about 4-5 inches now.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
