So I ordered a custom wire lid that was the size of the tank 60x18. However being blonde and a girl I didn't realize the lip on top of my aquarium added a half inch in both directions. Now I have a non-returnable 60x18 hinged screen.
Any ideas on how to add 1/2 inch in both directions??

is there any way that you could add a wooden frame to the wire that slots down over the edges.

what is the thought of an acrylic top that has holes drilled in? I am worried about air exchange though...

That is what my husband said :) Thanks for the suggestion. My simple project has turned into a bad dream.

Where did you get a 60x18 tank? I don't think that is a standard tank size. Most tanks and lids are sold in standardized sizes and one needn't worry about that extra half inch.

I'm not sure what would be the easiest solution, just be sure it's secure. The problem with plexiglass is that it can warp when it's moist on one side, so eventually you get gaps at the edges.

We bought this tank from a friend at work. When I kept fish in it I had a hard time finding 2 glass lids because of the supports in the middle.

It has a foe wood trim on the outside...I read where someone used razor blades to take this off of another tank. What do you think about that?

I have taken off the plastic trim on standard tanks before, using a razor blade. I think a pic of your tank might help so we can picture better what it looks like...

I took some pictures this morning of the foe frame corner.

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
